Republican Gerrymandering Threatening Democracy

12-8-25
Through the years, Republicans and Democrats have both been guilty of gerrymandering in states, but now Trump and much of the Republican Party are taking this practice to an extreme and blatantly undemocratic level. Don’t believe me? Consider the following…
Trump and Republicans are being quite open about the fact that they want to gerrymander red states to such a point that even if more people in these states vote for Democrats, Republicans will still win elections because the districts will be shaped in ways that the Democrats will have no chance of winning. In other words, they’re trying to create districts that essentially guarantee Republican victory even if in the state as a whole more people are voting for the Democrats. And what’s making things even more disturbing is how Trump and much of the Republican Party are being quite open about what they’re doing and why. They’re trying to virtually guarantee that Republicans will hold the majority in the House of Representatives even if more people are voting for Democrats in the country.
Think about this. I mean really think about it. Consider what it means. Republicans want to create a nation where they are virtually guaranteed to hold the majority in the House of Representatives even if more Americans are voting for Democrats in House elections. Folks, this is not democracy. This means millions of Americans will be disenfranchised in the electoral process. It’s a step in creating a nation with single party control, and of course the Republicans want their party to be the party in control.
And what’s making the situation even worse is that the conservative majority of the Supreme Court seem to be going along with this. It looks like they’re letting it happen. As a result, Democrats have no choice but to gerrymander blue states in an effort to prevent guaranteed Republican control over the House. This means millions of Americans of both parties are going to be disenfranchised. Democrats in red states will have virtually no real say or representation in the House of Representatives while the reverse will be true in blue states. But since the conservatively controlled Supreme Court is going along with this blatant Republican assault on democracy, Democrats have no choice.
Where will this end? No one can really say. But there’s no question that this is yet another assault on our democracy. We are living under a regime with Trump pushing for more and more authoritarian style power and the Republican party trying to gerrymander states to such a degree that they’re virtually guaranteed to keep a majority in the House of Representatives. I think it’s clear that these are some of the greatest threats to our democracy this nation has ever faced.
So what can we do? We need to speak out against what the Republicans are doing. Contact elected officials, especially Republicans, at all levels to demand they stand against this undemocratic assault by the Republican Party upon our democracy. Demand they cease trying to gerrymander this nation into an authoritarian state. Remind them that they’re supposed to be upholding the Constitution of this country and representing all American citizens. We need to peacefully speak out and stand up for our rights and democratic values. And of course we need to vote in overwhelming numbers in future elections doing our best to vote out Republicans who are threatening our democratic way of life.
