NATO has been vitally important in protecting European democracies since 1949. And it’s still important today, especially considering how Putin’s Russia is threatening Ukraine and also has been attempting to undermine elections in multiple countries, including the United States.
The alliance is facing challenges. Donald Trump has caused uncertainty among the other NATO members because of his numerous outrageous statements and actions. Turkey’s invasion of Syrian territory is also deeply problematic considering that Turkey is a NATO member and has essentially invaded another country. Plus, Great Britain’s impending exit from the European Union could result in all sorts of effects on the continent.
I truly hope that the NATO alliance perseveres and withstands the trials and tribulations it is currently experiencing.
Perhaps it will end up stronger on the other end of this turbulent time.
