Republican Attempt to Move Discovery to Texas Hypocritical, Outrageous, and Expensive

7-25-25
Did you know that in Trump’s 2025 tax law, Republicans sneaked in an amendment to move the Space Shuttle Discovery from the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum all the way to Texas?
Think about this. For one thing, what the hell does moving the Space Shuttle Discovery to Texas have to do with tax issues? Experts estimate that such a move could cost $325 million. $325 million! This is utterly outrageous! The Discovery should stay in the Smithsonian Institution considering what an important part of America’s exploration of space it represents. People come to Washington DC from around the world to explore the Smithsonian Institution, a place where art and artifacts from this nation’s history are stored and can be seen by all for free. There is no charge at the Smithsonian museums.
Now, you have Republican lawmakers from Texas trying to make a grab for this important piece of American history in what I think is a despicable and very unethical way, slipping this amendment into a law about taxes. Plus, moving Discovery to Texas would be ridiculously expensive, with experts estimating it could cost $325 million. $325 million! That sounds atrociously hypocritical to me considering how Republicans are cutting all sorts of federal jobs and important government programs while giving the ultra-rich tax cuts they don’t need.
I hope this move can be stopped, but considering  how Trump is in the White House and Republicans have majorities in both Chambers of Congress, who knows. It’s also another example of why we need to vote as many Republicans out of office as possible in future elections. We need to bring sanity back to government.
