1-8-26
People all over the world have seen videos of the horrific death of Renee Nicole Good in Minnesota. And while we need a thorough, fair investigation to get to the bottom of things, based on the information I’ve seen thus far, I think her death was senseless, needless, and should never have happened.
The videos are terrible to watch knowing that on 1-7-26, a wife and mother who has been described as caring, compassionate, and loving loses her life from an ICE agent’s gun. Why did this happen? It’s a question that’s haunting people all over this country. Why?
Again, we need a thorough investigation. For example, I don’t know if she said anything or what all eyewitnesses saw. But looking at the videos and information that are out there, her shooting death doesn’t look justified to me. In my opinion, it appears that the federal agents were giving her conflicting orders in unnecessarily aggressive ways. One eyewitness says the agents first demanded that she move out of the way and then immediately switched to ordering her to get out of the vehicle using expletive language. In such a situation, I can imagine anyone being scared and confused. It appears to me that when she starts moving the vehicle, she first backs up and then when she goes forward she’s turning the front wheels to the right as if trying to avoid the agents and get away. It also appears that the agent who did the shooting while being bumped by the car doesn’t appear in any real danger to me. I’ve also heard multiple experts say that the federal agents may not have been following proper protocol, such as how the one agent looked to be getting in front of the vehicle and the fact that he fired at it while it was moving (and looked to be trying to get away and not purposely run anyone down). Another thing that I find outrageous is that shortly after the terrible shooting, another video shows how a civilian who was being held back by federal agents asked to be allowed to help and that he was a doctor, but the agents would not let him through saying they had their own medics. But the eyewitness stated that it was around 15 minutes before an ambulance arrived and that the ambulance had to park down the block due to ICE vehicles blocking the road.
How did we come to this state of affairs? Tensions are high and have been so for years, though they’ve gotten especially bad during this second Trump administration. It looks to me that the Trump administration has been particularly bad this go around spewing out hateful, outrageous rhetoric and establishing unnecessarily aggressive authoritarian style policies. There are numerous reports from local officials around the country about how ICE agents are not coordinating with local officials. We’ve all heard the accounts and seen videos of how ICE agents appear unnecessarily aggressive as they grab people out of vehicles, threaten bystanders, grab people off the streets, etc. It appears to many that ICE is often behaving in ways that are likely unconstitutional. They often seem to ignore the right to due process despite the fact that the United States Constitution is clear that all persons (not all citizens) have the right to due process. With the Trump administration promoting outrageous rhetoric and aggressive tactics, it’s no surprise that many ICE agents have in turn gotten overly aggressive in their methods and behavior.
So what now? I think now is a time that people all over this nation need to peacefully stand up and speak out against the outrageous rhetoric and authoritarian style behavior of the Trump administration. Enough is enough. We need to peacefully make our voices heard demanding a return to sanity, respect, decency, and true healthy democracy.
